Ohira Uchigumori Hone- narrow
From the Tenjou Strata (layer) of Ohira mine. Uchigumori is a fantastic for honing smiling razors/ kamisori, swords and Chef knives etc. (japanese chisels too). Its unique particle properties allow it to do multiple things synthetic stones cannot, and one is to instill the perfect kasumi finish in blades of 2 different steel types or tempers. This piece is perfect for both Chef Knives and razors. You can hone directly on it or use as finger stones to develop that hazy finish of a well polished and honed fine blade. A Kasumi finish is shown in the last picture on the end of a Yanagi sushi knife. Note the dark hazy contrast to mirro finish of the edge
This is a partially flattened hone of Uchigumori which is very clean and a beautiful purple grey, with some natural pink momiji patterning on one end (momiji is Maple leaf, as this type of pattern resembles Japanese Maple leaves). there is a valley by the side only 2mm in depth (visible in first picture by center) that you may want to lap further with a lapping plate before honing straight edge razors on, though you can work around it as well, as I do (it's precious stuff and I save the powder when I do lap for polishing). I will flatten this stone upon request before shipping if you just include a note with your wish with your order or send an email to our gmail address.
This piece is very clean and consistent with minimal lines shown from the side and back.
