Nakayama Iromono Kiita Tomae (Rainbow)~ Lv 5 ~Private Reserve
***THIS STONE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE*** I've changed my mind and this rare quirky stone has earned a reprieve to remain safe in my collection, were it belongs. Thank you.
A superb Nakayama rainbow colored kiita koppa. Honing razors on fantastic ironomo is a rare treat.
Shave Quality off this stone is superb.
Hardness 4+ Fines 5
A tomae that would otherwise be kiita if there wasn't so much colors. There is a rainbow that goes from ochre to red, bright yellow, orange, red to pink to purple and then a lucid violet haze over a yellow background give way to a orange gradient with yellow kiita flashes and rays, and then back again. I could look at this stone for hours. (and now with these pictures, thankfully I'll be able to while I'm kicking myself for ever selling her)
Kiita is rare, approaching 100 years since man exhausted those rare and heavily taxed veins in the Umegahata. The fact that it is ironomo is even rarer, the fact that it has a rainbow and more importantly, that it is so vivid, well exponentially. Then again for it being a somewhat hard kiita. Great kiita are my favourite. Iromono (Colorful Laundry) is a rare, and when it was found it was almost exclusively in 'soft' kiita. Intuitively so, because most kiita is 'soft'.
Hard kiita is even rarer than kiita, and well iromono with *vivid* rainbow-- you get the picture, but you probably could have gotten it just from looking at the pictures.
Also, it's Nakayama. So that's a plus.
If you are a left handed person, then that would make me very happy as this prized koppa has a thumb notch with the natural formation of the kawa that millions of years ago nature was engineering specifically a left handed custodian, and while it works just fine when I would occasionally flip it around and throw my pinky in the notch-- it just feels like this stone was made for a lefty and I'm wasting it by not appreciating how exceedingly rare that final culmination in rarity makes this toishi. I mostly honed south paw with it or flat on the bech, and with fantastic results. I didn't have the heart to lap the other side.
