Nakayama Karasu ~ Lv 5++
Phenomenal Nakayama Karasu from the showa period or earlier! The sides show where this incredibly hard toishi was cut by hand saw. With toishi dai of what looks to be Hinoki cypress which was hand carved and the toishi fitted and recessed into for protection. It has the refreshing scent of an old boathouse or antique shop with its smell of wood.
I have seen the prices climb and climb for Karasu recently and in the past 5 years, it is now very hard to get even average quality and This is a Phenomenal karasu honzan. A fantastic hone for final sharpening and finishing. The portions of layer that contained karasu were very thin and it's increasingly rare to have found one like this where the mica in the Karasu pattern is consistent in grain with the host stone, and isn't scratchy or hard. Gives superb edges to razors and highly polished edges that are keen and smooth and close cutting. great investment for collectors. generations of honing left in this excellent Karasu.
